I met a wonderful couple in 2011, on just the  fourth ride for this blog. Clarence and Janet Purfeerst planted and nurtured a beautiful garden across the street from their Behill Road home. ‘Clarence’s Back 20’, as Janet named it, was on either railroad or utility right-of-way. The Back 20, was so splendid that even construction crews carefully worked around it.

Today, during a quick scan of the obituaries in the Pioneer Press newspaper, I noticed that Clarence passed away on September 25, 2017. I send my thoughts to their family as they mourn Clarence. And I remember the great impression both Clarence and Janet made upon me during our brief meeting. Click on the link below to read about our interview.

  1. Wolfie, the picture of Janet and Clarence in the garden is beautiful. Their children and grandchildren will cherish that photo! Thanks for sharing. Rest in peace Mr. Purfeerst.

    1. Hi Cathy, thanks very much for your continued support and nice comments. Janet and Clarence, and many, many other people I’ve met on rides are why I so enjoy doing this. I’ve met awesome folks like the Purfeersts in every part of Saint Paul.
